Product Processing
Pretreatment:
1. Reception and sorting: The avocados are delivered from the farms and undergo an initial sorting. They are checked for maturity, damage and defects such as stains or bruises.
2. Washing: Avocados are thoroughly washed to remove dirt, debris and potential pathogens. This is crucial to ensure food safety and extend shelf life.
3. Classification: Based on size, quality and intended use.
Processing:
- Sorting and trimming: Further sorting is carried out for quality and the remaining unsuitable avocados are discarded.
- Washing and drying: Another wash cycle, often with specialized brushes and rinse steps, ensures thorough cleaning.
Packaging and shipping:
- Packaging: Depending on the market and transportation times, avocados can be packaged in different ways including single-layer trays, cardboard boxes, or mesh bags. We use protective padding to prevent dents or movement during transportation.
- Labeling: Including country of origin, variety, species and net weight.
- Cold Storage and Shipping: We store them refrigerated units to control temperatures and slow ripening during transportation. Depending on the distance and urgency, we use different shipping methods such as air or sea transport.
Additional activities:
- Waste management: Processing produces organic waste such as peels and pits. Disposal or sustainable use, such as composting or biofuel production, is employed by us.
- Quality Control: Strict quality checks are carried out throughout the process to ensure that the avocados meet export standards and maintain the brand’s reputation.
- Traceability: Implementing systems to track avocados from farm to destination to increase transparency and accountability in the supply chain.
